What do you look forward to most about getting older?

Posted on Dec 5th, 2008 by Magen : Breathe Me Magen
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 05, 2008:

I've seen people age in a few ways. My father was intemperate in his youth, he traveled the world, fought in wars, and probably slept with hundreds of women. Now he is in his fifties with a steady helicopter piloting job, and hes hardly less than miserable. He does the same thing week after week and I can tell its not what he wants, but what he is stuck with. I want the opposite. I have been doing the same old same old since I was born. I know that right now I need to concentrate on schooling and starting a career. I look forward to having the freedom to travel and avoiding the mundane. I look forward to getting past the responsibility of setting up my life, and actually using it to do some good. I want to be someone, and youth fades quickly, so I look forward to that about getting older.

you will always have work to do but if you enjoy the work that will make all
the difference to you.  It's not what we take in this life that makes us happy.

When I was young I watched my father work 15hr days 7 days a week to provide. We lived comfortably. He was honest, loyal and a fair disciplinarian. I watched him struggle to stay awake at dinners, family gatherings. He unselfishly sacrificed his life for his family. I once swore I would never be like that, that life offers more then a 9-5 sacrifice. I traveled a lot, spent 9 years in the Navy full of adrenaline rushes, lived for myself which almost cost me my marriage and children. All the self indulging running from becoming my dad always left me empty, unfulfilled and wanting. God rescued me and I've learned to pray this prayer: God please make me become the man my father is. I now can say, I have, and my life is blessed in more ways then this space would allow me to share. Live life fully, but fully live to be a sacrifice to others. Then you will know peace, love and complete happiness. Life without meaning is just that, meaningless. And we all have meaning. <>< Sonny <>< As long as your breathing– It's never to late.
